Local sports moments from the past: A trip down memory lane

On Saturday, the Binghamton Devils and Belleville Senators went head to head in the third period of their game at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. The match was full of excitement as Binghamton ultimately emerged victorious with a 3-1 win.

In another memorable AHL moment, the Binghamton Senators defeated Bridgeport in the Eastern Conference semifinals at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. With a sold-out arena watching, the Senators took a 3-2 lead after winning Game 1 with a 3-0 shutout, thanks to goals from Josh Langfeld, Chris Bala, and Chris Kelly. Goalie Ray Emery made 26 saves, including a crucial stoppage of a power-play drought that helped secure their victory.

The B-Sens went on to eliminate Bridgeport in Game 6 with a thrilling 2-1 victory. Emery’s goaltending prowess was once again key in shutting down the opposition, stopping an incredible 60 out of 61 shots in the final two games of the series. Coach John Paddock praised Emery as one of the top young goalies in AHL and a significant difference maker for their team.

Meanwhile, Arthur Jones made history by winning New York State’s Junior Wrestling Championships’ 275-pound title at Union High School last weekend. Jones pinned Justin Tougas in the final match, marking his fifth pin in as many bouts that weekend. This victory added another impressive achievement to Jones’ athletic record which includes winning Super Bowl with Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and being an older brother of UFC star Jon Jones and NFL standout Chandler Jones – making him part of an exceptional athletic family.
