Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik has spoken to Sky News about the ongoing war in Russia and urged the British government to release billions of pounds in frozen Russian assets. She emphasized the importance of unity among allies and the need to transition from merely fighting to actively winning the war. Rudik highlighted the significance of utilizing the frozen assets to support Ukraine’s war efforts.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the UK has seized billions of pounds in assets belonging to the Russian state and oligarchs. There has been a debate on how to use this money, with some suggesting it should be saved for rebuilding Ukraine post-war. However, Rudik stressed that the funds should be used to hold Putin accountable and to support Ukraine’s fight against the invasion.

Rudik mentioned that about £50bn of state assets and oligarchs’ money are currently frozen in the UK. She expressed gratitude for the support from allies, including the UK, but emphasized the need for decisive action regarding the use of the frozen assets. Rudik emphasized that it is crucial that Russian money is used for legitimate purposes such as purchasing ammunition and rebuilding Ukraine.

The Ukrainian MP further explained that unity among allies is crucial in this time of conflict, stating “We need all our allies standing with us, not only providing financial aid but also political support.” She also urged for more stringent sanctions against Russia, stating “Sanctions alone will not stop Putin from continuing his aggression towards other countries.”

In conclusion, Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik believes that it is imperative for Britain and its allies to utilize their frozen Russian assets quickly and efficiently if they are going to make a real impact on ending this conflict.
