Revolutionizing Shopping: Sam’s Club Introduces AI Receipt Verification and Repurposing Vacant Big-Box Stores for Innovative Uses

By the end of 2024, technology upgrades will be implemented at St. Cloud Sam’s Club.

Sam’s Club is rolling out a new technology to make shopping more convenient and faster. Called AI receipt verification, the system aims to streamline the checkout process by eliminating the need for a team member to check your receipt as you leave the store. The Scan and Go feature, already offered by Sam’s Club, sets it apart from competitors like Costco.

The implementation of AI receipt verification began a few months ago and is currently being used in approximately 120 Sam’s Club locations across the US, or about 20% of the stores. The technology uses a combination of computer vision and digital technology at the store exit to verify payment and ensure a smooth checkout process. The system is continuously learning and improving thanks to its AI capabilities.

The majority of the stores with this new technology are located in Southern States where it was tested and proven successful. The plan is to implement this technology in all Sam’s Club locations by the end of the year, gradually addressing any potential glitches that may arise during the process. For customers who use Scan and Go, there will be no changes to this system.
