Newly Appointed Secretary of Mining Luis Lucero: The Key to Unlocking Argentina’s Lithium and Copper Potential

Luis Lucero appointed as the new Secretary of Mining by Javier Milei’s Government

In a statement from the Ministry of Economy, the Government of Javier Milei has announced the appointment of Luis Lucero as the new Secretary of Mining. Lucero is a lawyer specializing in the mining industry, natural resources law, project financing, corporate matters, and complex arbitrations and litigation.

Lucero is a graduate of the University of Buenos Aires with a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa. He has also completed various specialization courses and seminars at institutions such as the University of Dundee, Harvard Law School, Columbia Business School, the University of Cambridge, and University College London (UCL).

Prior to his appointment, Lucero worked at the Marval O’Farrell Mairal law firm and other prominent legal firms in the country, as well as Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the United States.

The Mining Secretariat is led by Lucero and is responsible for proposing, executing, and monitoring the country’s mining policy. The Secretariat works closely with provinces, municipalities, investors, and companies to coordinate international cooperation and maximize Argentina’s geological-mining potential. Last year, Argentina exported $4 billion worth of minerals with projections to reach $20-25 billion by 2030 particularly with development of copper projects and potential to become major lithium producer.

Lucero has been recognized as an outstanding professional in the mining industry and project financing and has spoken at various national and international institutions.
