Raúl González, a seasoned hotel executive, was born in Guardo, Palencia in 1961. His father was stationed there for work, and it was on International Tourism Day that González believed he was destined to work in the industry. Currently serving as the CEO for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East of Barceló Hotel Group, Spain’s second-largest chain by number of rooms, González has grown up, studied and lived in Bilbao until his work with the hotel company led him to reside in Palma de Mallorca.

González enjoys traveling and meeting new people but admits that excessive travel can be exhausting. He takes around 200 flights per year as part of his job responsibilities but emphasizes the importance of setting an example and staying connected with hotels under his supervision. When asked about stress management, González highlights the importance of temperance and not letting tensions impact those around him. He acknowledges that maintaining a friendly demeanor can be challenging in high-stress situations but emphasizes the importance of respectful communication.

Reflecting on his career evolution, González notes that as responsibilities increased, he became more focused on fostering personal relationships rather than being an economist. He emphasizes the importance of understanding and connecting with people from various roles such as team members to hotel owners. Despite changing dynamics at work, González is proud to see his team members grow and surpass him in certain areas. In his personal interests, González enjoys sports like paddle tennis and tennis, reading books and spending time with his family. He recognizes the challenges of maintaining a work-life balance but tries to ensure quality time without distractions when he spends time with his family.
