Exploring the Microscopic World: Delta College’s Eyes of Science Program”.

Delta College in Stockton has a unique facility that is training the next generation of high-paying careers. Recently, the Eyes of Science display held a free open house, allowing visitors to tour the facility and learn about its various programs.

One of the main attractions of this facility is the electron microscopy program, which is the only one of its kind in the nation at a community college level. Jose Jimenez, an instructor at Delta College, explains that this program allows students to look into the atom’s cell structure and delve into the nanoworld. Hitachi trained and mentored Jimenez to work on powerful microscopes known as Eyes of Science, which are essential for critical research in various scientific fields.

Many students who enroll in this program initially have no interest in microscopy but find themselves developing a passion for it as they progress through their studies. For example, Logan Gorham was originally an art major but discovered his love for microscopy when he enrolled in this program at Delta College. With 20 students currently enrolled and many local students among them, there is a noticeable demand for skilled individuals in this field.

Cassidy Altimari highlights another advantage of this program – job opportunities. The job board at the facility lists numerous job opportunities in biological, pharmaceutical, and material science fields. Many students have jobs lined up even before they graduate due to these job prospects. Nathaniel Sibayan and Alyssa Origer both have jobs waiting for them after graduation from Delta College’s Eyes of Science program.

The success of this program has led to plans to expand it on campus at Delta College in Stockton. Rachaellien Trinh, director of the program, explains that they are working hard to make it bigger and fill more seats with eager students who want to pursue careers in high-paying fields like nanotechnology or biomedical imaging technology. School leaders note that those who complete this program see a significant increase in their earnings – an average increase of 168%.

The enthusiasm of these students coupled with promising job prospects makes continued growth and development essential for Delta College’s Eyes of Science program at Stockton.
