Expert in Science Education and Writing Visits Glenmont Elementary School for Unforgettable Presentations

Visit from Science Author and Educator at Glenmont

Science author and educator Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen visited Glenmont Elementary School last week for two presentations that were tailored to different grade levels. The younger students (K-2) learned about worm anatomy and the importance of revision in writing, while the third through fifth-grade students focused on the research involved in nonfiction writing.

Dr. Wheeler-Toppen used examples from her book, Dog and Cat Science Unleashed!, to show students how to use a research cycle strategy to guide their information searches. This interactive session inspired the older students to see research as a fun and essential part of the writing process.

The event was made possible thanks to Dr. Jodi Wheeler-Toppen, Glenmont Library Media Specialist Angela Datri, and the Glenmont PTA. The students and staff at Glenmont Elementary School were grateful for the opportunity to learn from an expert in science education and writing.
