STAT launches fellowship for science reporting [in the United States]

A rare opportunity awaits early-career journalists in the United States from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups. STAT is proud to present the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship, a yearlong program designed to prepare journalists for a successful career in science journalism.

This fellowship will run from mid-July 2024 to mid-July 2025 and will be based at STAT’s Boston office. The lucky recipient will have the chance to work alongside seasoned science and health reporters and editors, gaining valuable experience while also receiving mentorship.

In addition to this, the fellow will be compensated with a salary of $75,000, health insurance, 10 days of vacation, and standard holidays off. This fellowship presents an excellent opportunity for aspiring science journalists to further their careers and make a significant impact in the field.

The fellowship has been named after Sharon Begley, a renowned science writer for STAT who passed away in January 2021 at the age of 64. Her legacy continues through this fellowship, which aims to continue her work and support future generations of science journalists.
