Clariant and Lummus Awarded Catalyst Technology Contract for Dehydrogenation of Isobutane in Huizhou City, China

Contract for catalyst technology awarded to Clariant and Lummus

Huizhou Boeko Materials Co. Ltd. has selected Clariant and Lummus Technology to supply their CATOFIN catalyst and process technology for the dehydrogenation of isobutane at a new plant in Huizhou City, China. The first-time use of CATOFIN technology at one of their sites marks a significant milestone for the company. The project scope includes the technology license and basic engineering, with the goal of producing 550,000 million tpy of net isobutylene as feedstock for methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) production.

Clariant’s CATOFIN catalyst has been licensed by Lummus Technology, which provides the process technology for this project. Jens Cuntze, Business President Catalysts and APAC at Clariant, is excited about bringing their catalyst to this first Huizhou Boeko plant and looks forward to a successful partnership. He notes that the CATOFIN process offers reliability, productivity, and increased profitability for the plant due to its efficiency in utilizing fixed-bed reactors operating at optimal pressure and temperature for maximum catalytic dehydrogenation of isobutane.
