Behold the Majestic Moon: A Lunar Eclipse and Our Intern’s Stunning Photos, with Discussion Questions

Science Spotlight: The Moon

On Monday, March 25th, a stunning lunar eclipse graced the sky. Our intern, Alexandra, along with her sister Ariana, seized the opportunity to capture some breathtaking photos of the moon using their telescope. The pictures turned out so well that one of them was even used in this thumbnail. Thanks to Ariana for her amazing shots!

The moon may seem like a beautiful celestial body, but how much do we really know about it? The moon was formed around 4.5 billion years ago as a result of a collision that took place in our solar system. It’s interesting to note that Earth is not the only planet in our solar system that has moons. Jeff St. Clair has more information about this topic if you’re interested in learning more.

Here are some discussion questions to think about:

1. What do you believe the moon is composed of?

2. Have you ever observed the moon during the day? If so, what did you notice?

3. If given the chance to travel to the moon, what items would you choose to bring along with you?
